Learning the Game

Phantasy Star Tabletop uses a familiar dice system loaded with new rules and and a host of unique features. These  options let you customize your game using your favorite aspects from the video game series. You can create your own tales in the Phantasy Star universe or relive the epic adventures of the setting’s iconic heroes.

 

Character Origins

Galactic Lineages

Each species is customizable using both innate and environmental traits.

Android

Self-aware cybernetic beings with enhanced senses, resistances, and stamina.

Human

The most populous species. Adaptable with a variety of environmental traits.

Newman

Enhanced humanoids. They have heightened senses and natural prowess.

Dezolian

Natives of Dezolis. They have keen instincts and inherent magical abilities.

Motavian

Natives of Motavia. They have natural endurance and can survive in extreme climates.

Musk Cat

Small, agile creatures with cat-like traits and strong ties to mystical forces.

Backgrounds and Bonds

Every story has a beginning. Your character’s background reveals where you came from, how you became who you are today, and how you see your place in the world. Were you a space pilot? A doctor or scientist? Or even a famous actor?

Your character’s bonds define your personal connection to the story and the catalyst between your background and current profession.

Professions Defined

Your choice of profession defines your character’s primary capabilities.

Guardian

Heroic defenders and champions of light. They can take on the role of a cosmic defender or aim to deliver swift justice upon the forces of darkness.

Expert explorers and trackers. Hunters brave the galactic wilds in search of monsters and threats. They can be deadly front-line fighters or instead specialize in ranged tactics and reconnaissance.

Mystic

Agile combatants and spiritual healers. Mystics can unleash crippling strikes upon their foes. Their support techniques are invaluable when exploring dangerous regions.

Operative

Experts in infiltration, investigation, and subterfuge. Operatives specialize in uncovering secrets, acquiring rare goods, and getting into hard-to-reach places.

The Game System

The core game features the popular d20 system which inspired the Phantasy Star video games alongside many other JRPG classics. While the base mechanics are familiar, several major aspects have been streamlined or overhauled with new features and innovative elements inspired by the iconic video game series.

Character Options

Character origins allow for easy customization using Variant and Environmental Traits.

Skills use a points-by-level system, allowing for greater control and flexibility.

Fate Points

Spend Fate Points to gain bonus dice that provide a boost to your actions and checks. Your point total and their effectiveness improve along with your character.

Certain professions can also use Fate Points in unique ways.

Techniques and Combos

Using Technique Points (TP) allows for versatile selection and casting of techniques. Choose from a comprehensive list of techniques inspired by the classic and PSO games.

Gearing Up

The gear system features weapon and armor types and grades. Each weapon type has special properties that expand and improve as its grade increases.

Your choice of gear matters as these equipment types are tied into your profession.

Create engaging exploration and combat encounters using vehicle and starship rules adapted from the award-winning Esper Genesis RPG.

The GM tools provide tables and options for creating your own galactic maps and star systems.

Rules Customizations

Variant rules are introduced into each major aspect of the game, letting you to customize the system’s feel and play style.

Code of Conduct

This Code of Conduct establishes that players, game masters, organizers, staff, and all others participating in an official Skydawn Game Studios event or project have the right to a healthy and safe environment.

  • Avoid excessively vulgar, sexual, or mature language and subjects or pictures/graphics depicting them.
  • Let other attendees speak and avoid talking over or interrupting others.
  • Avoid excessive cross-talk that is not relevant to the game being played.
  • Allow other players to get the attention of the Game Master.
  • Discourage others from using social media to bully, shame, or intimidate other members.
  • Avoid outside conversations during game play. If you must take an outside call or message, please excuse yourself from the table until it is completed.
  • Obtain active consent before recording or streaming parts of the event where other participants can be individually identified.
Aggressive behavior includes any of these:
  • Threats of physical aggression
  • Use of racial, gender-based, cultural, or other slurs against other community members
  • Derogatory commentary on a person’s looks, age, dress, linguistic tradition, religion, ethnicity, sexuality, gender, or gender identity (among others)
  • Harassment of other community members or threats thereof
Sexual harassment includes, but is not limited to:
  • Vulgar or sexual language, comments, gestures, or jokes
  • The display of sexually explicit objects or messages
  • Unwelcome remarks of a sexual nature directed at another participant or their characters
  • Persistent sexual or romantic advances without the other person’s willing participation
  • Code of conduct violations can be anonymously reported using this form.
  • Members who notice disruptive or unsafe behavior may attempt to make the person exhibiting the behavior aware of their actions (if they feel safe doing so). Members who feel uncomfortable bringing the behavior to the attention of the person exhibiting the behavior should notify a staff members immediately.
  • Game Masters have the right to ask disruptive players to leave the table and speak with an event administrator.
  • Event administrators have the right to remove disruptive, aggressive, or disrespectful attendees from all events run by Skydawn Game Studios with no further recourse permitted.
  • If a Game Master is not assisting you properly or is responsible for permitting violations of the Code of Conduct, please speak to an Admin immediately.
  • No one is exempt from these rules and all allegations will be taken seriously.

To report a violation of our Code of Conduct, you may use our misconduct reporting form. Please note, we are unable to reply to anonymous reports. If you would like a personal response from one of our admins or a member of our conduct committee, please use the Contact Us page instead.
